Over two decades the Philharmonia has made a second home in Leicester and we continue to bring the best of our work to the city. Over seven concerts in 2017/18 the Orchestra performs an expansive range of repertoire, featuring music as varied as Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, and Mahler’s First Symphony with Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Once again the Philharmonia collaborates with both major international artists and emerging talent, as in the opening concert of the season (7 Oct), in which Principal Guest Conductor Jakub Hrůša conducts Smetana’s Má Vlast and three-time Grammy award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn performs Dvořák’s Violin Concerto. Elsewhere Philharmonia at the Movies returns with a romantic film score evening, and the pre-concert talks series offers new perspectives on the music performed.
We remain ever grateful to Leicester City Council and the many supporters – especially our new Principal Partner, De Montfort University – who continue to make possible the work the Philharmonia brings to De Montfort Hall and the city’s wider communities.
