In The Community

The Digital team works across all departments at the Philharmonia Orchestra, but most closely with Education and Marketing, and their digital installations have been at the heart of the organisation’s overall audience development strategy. Its installations have demonstrated the power of technology to build newer, more diverse audiences that may have never set foot in a concert hall, or are based in communities that have little or no access to orchestral music.

iOrchestra was the Philharmonia’s largest project to date, combining its largest digital installations with a new touring musical truck MusicLab (pictured above), grassroots participatory elements and live concerts to create a two-year festival of orchestral music that covered the South-West of the UK, reaching over 120,000 people, and winning the organisation an RPS award for the third time in six years. Completed in Summer 2015, the Philharmonia Orchestra will be applying their unique audience development methodology to London with a 10-day festival at Southbank Centre, The Virtual Orchestra, in September 2016.
