MMSF Instrumental Fellowships: FAQ's

Is there an age limit?

Do I have to be a British Citizen?
Please refer to the relevant Guidelines.

What does it cost to apply?
It is free to apply. However, if you are called to audition you will be asked to pay a one off fee of £20.

Where are the auditions?
Auditions will be in London – you will be informed when invited.

What do I need to prepare for the auditions?
If invited to audition, you will be emailed all of the relevant information for what to prepare.

Will the auditions be screened?
Yes, first round auditions will be screened. Any subsquent stages will not be screened.

Who is on the panel?
The panel will be made up of members of the Philharmonia Orchestra.

Is there an accompanist?
Yes – please do not bring your own.

Is financial assistance available towards attending the audition?
The Philharmonia Orchestra is not able to provide financial assistance to applicants attending auditions.

Can you offer me any advice on my application?
We are unable to provide detailed advice to applicants, except about eligibility criteria. However, if you are unsure as to whether you are eligible for these awards, please get in touch via email ( and we may be able to give you some basic guidance.

Can I apply to the scheme more than once?
If you have previously been given an MMSF Award you may apply to this new programme. We will not be able to provide repeat Fellowship places.

Will you provide any feedback if I’m not successful?
Due to the volume of applications, we are unable to provide feedback.
