Orchestra Unwrapped: Details for Schools
HOW DO I BOOK? HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Tickets are allocated on a first-come first-served basis, and schools are advised to book as soon as possible as places sell very quickly. Advance booking is essential.
The cost of participating in Orchestra Unwrapped is £60 (+VAT) per class (approximately 30 children, plus accompanying adults), which includes concert tickets, a place at a teacher INSET session, and the project resource pack and CDs.
We have no further concerts in the 2018/19 academic year, but booking for our 2019/20 concerts will open later in the summer term.
Orchestra Unwrapped is open to any KS2 pupils. The concerts have been devised especially for the 7-11 age group and are suitable for all children; as well as mainstream schools, Orchestra Unwrapped concerts are regularly attended by special schools, home educated children, pupil referral units, and looked-after children. Materials and activities can be tailored as appropriate.
Orchestra Unwrapped is a series of live orchestral concerts by the Philharmonia Orchestra. Specially tailored for KS2 children, the Philharmonia performs a varied programme, presented by a music education specialist. The concerts are designed to introduce the orchestra, its instruments and repertoire in a dynamic, fun and accessible way.
Teacher INSET (training) sessions precede each concert, offering an opportunity for staff to work directly with the concert presenter. Teachers receive guidance on how to maximise the concert experience by learning exercises that will help them prepare their classes for the concert visit, and follow it up in school. INSET sessions are suitable for music specialists and teachers who have no prior musical background.
A resource pack and audience participation piece practice tracks accompany each concert. These are also available online after the INSET for each concert.

"The audience participation piece was perfectly pitched at children's level - Challenging but not too hard. Orchestra were fantastic and provided children with an experience they wouldn't access otherwise."
