Cross Arts Creative Projects: The Last Plantagenet
Usually in partnership with a music hub or arts organisation, our cross-arts creative projects tend to be high-profile, large-scale, participatory one-off events.
The Last Plantagenet is a major, large-scale choral and orchestral piece inspired by the discovery and reburial of King Richard III, commissioned from composer John Webb by the Leicester-Shire Schools Music Service and the Philharmonia Orchestra for the young musicians of Leicester.
The piece involved over 250 young musicians, including an SATB choir, junior chorus, musicians from the Leicester-Shire Schools Symphony Orchestra, Indian classical musicians and members of the Philharmonia. The Last Plantagenet received its world première at De Montfort Hall, Leicester on Saturday 18 April 2015 to a capacity audience.
The project was recorded by the Philharmonia's digital team for an audio podcast as part of their Backstage Pass series.
