Principal Timpani

Antoine Siguré was born in Orléans, France, and started playing percussion at the age of 6. After his move to Brussels in 2009, and following his encounter with the musicians of Spira mirabilis, he decided to shift his focus to timpani and their role in orchestral repertoire.

He joined the Philharmonia Orchestra as principal timpani in 2016, aged 29, and kept an active freelance career on the side. Over the years, Antoine has performed as principal timpani with Aurora Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the London Symphony Orchestra, l’Orchestre de Paris, l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Brussels Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, l’Orchestre des Champs Élysées, Oxalys, the Pygmalion ensemble, to name a few.

Antoine is also very engaged on the teaching front. Having joined the Royal Academy of Music as Professor of Timpani in 2022, he has collaborated with other prestigious universities such as the Royal College of Music, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique (Paris), the Korean National University of Arts (Seoul), the Conservatorio de Música de Cartagena (Colombia), the Trinity Laban Conservatoire, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and the Purcell School.

In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, tweaking audiophile and techy gadgets, cooking (not very successfully) and spending time with his wife and daughter.

The Principal Timpani Chair is endowed by Max Mesny and Ramzi Rafih.
