The Philharmonia Orchestra is a forward-thinking orchestra for the 21st century, delivering ambitious, far-reaching orchestral programmes encompassing four centuries of music, from great orchestral masterpieces to striking new commissions. We aim to be a pioneer, leader and innovator in engaging the culturally disengaged, combining digital and outreach initiatives to reach new audiences and create new artistic experiences, delivering an established and proven audience development model that increases the diversity of the participants and audiences we reach.
The core of our business is performing live concerts. Our main home is Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London, where we have been resident since 1995. Under Esa-Pekka Salonen a series of award-winning flagship, visionary projects at Royal Festival Hall – distinctive for both their artistic scope and supporting live and digital content – have been critically acclaimed. In the 2017-18 financial year we performed 152 orchestral concerts, chamber concerts, recitals and sharings encompassing performances, screenings and festivals in the UK and internationally.
